What's covered in a Building Site Inspection?
The site inspections are thorough, useful documents for our clients covering topics such as; Site Documentation: Construction Phase Plans / Pre-Construction Information / Risk Assessments / Method Statements / COSHH, training, welfare arrangements, work at height, scaffolding, excavations, permits to work, asbestos, PPE, site wide elements, first aid, fire plan, traffic management etc. An inspection of the construction site will also take place, usually accompanied by the Site Manager / onsite Safety Manager.
What happens at a Site Inspection?
The inspector will normally arrive on site and be accompanied by the Site Manager. This can either be at an arranged time, or what is more effective; unannounced. This will include time in the site office going through site documentation (as briefly outlined above). Once this is complete, a walk of the site will be carried out. Any concerns / observations will be discussed with the Site Management, followed by a report being written up and sent through either on the same day / next morning at the latest. Any significant concerns would be discussed / closed out if possible at the time of the visit.
Why have a Site Inspection?
The purpose of a Site Inspection is not to catch the company or the Site Management out. It is to encourage a safer environment and to assist in identifying areas that may require improvement, all to the benefit of the client, its employees and those affected by the works. It can be seen as a proactive approach to ensuring the highest safety standards are met, by employing external consultants to assist in ensuring all construction projects / sites are regularly monitored by an external body. And as aforementioned, assisting with satisfying the requirements under the CDM Regulations.
